Fred W. Garcia, MSW ’75

For Fred W. Garcia (MSW ’75), LICSW, his 13-year stint as Director of Prevention and Treatment Services for the Colorado Department of Health’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division was just the beginning.  His next appointment came from President Clinton, who in 1993 named Garcia Deputy Director for Demand Reduction in the Office of National Drug Control Policy, with oversight of 32 Federal agencies’ strategy implementation. Garcia later served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Justice Department, then as Chief Operations Officer of the Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse in the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services. Today, Garcia Consulting provides numerous keynote addresses and advises such notable clients as the Centers for Disease Control, SAMHSA and The New York Times on chemical dependency, diversity, leadership and grant-writing.
